The Solo Stove Crown Jewels: Which Fire Pit Topper Is Right For You?

By Carolyn Owen

You know all about the in’s-and-out’s of your Solo Stove Fire Pit. It’s the best! Low-smoke fires are now an everyday reality… isn’t this century awesome? Maybe flying cars are next…

But if you’re new to the Solo Stove Community, you’ve probably heard words like “Shield”, “Flame Ring”, “Hub”, and even “Heat Deflector” thrown around like a couple of fire logs. Yes, these are all things that go on top of your fire pit to create unique experiences while it’s lit. Confused? Don’t worry. We’re here to sort it out… and welcome to the crew! Let’s dive in and talk all about how to crown your fire pit in order to create the experience you’re looking for:

Flame Ring

If you’ve been a part of the Solo Stove Community for longer than a day or two, you might have come across the hashtag that every entry-level fire pit user needs to know about: #FlipThatFlameRing!

The Solo Stove Flame Ring is an important part of your fire pit, designed to channel fire coming from the secondary burn holes inward and upward… i.e. away from any bare legs that may be walking by. When you get your fire pit, the Flame Ring will be upside down. Make sure you #FlipThatFlameRing right side up before you get started to ensure the safest, cleanest burn possible. It is designed to be used at all times, in conjunction with all of our other fire pit accessories.

Not so fast friend… time to #FlipThatFlameRing
Now THAT’S a Flame Ring in action. Burn on, buddy!

Each Solo Stove Fire Pit includes a Flame Ring, but after a while you might want to swap it out for a new one. After all, any material holding up to more than 1000° F is bound to show some wear and tear. Shop replacement Flame Rings here.

Hub

The Solo Stove Hub debuted in 2021 as a key part of the Fire Pit Cooking System. Since then, it has also become a valuable player while using the Solo Stove Heat Deflector.

Basically, it’s your go-to. Your safety net. The one that’s always there when you need it. As part of the Fire Pit Cooking System, it’s a necessary partner in bringing flame-kissed delicacies to life, allowing your Cast Iron Cooktops to sit gingerly atop your fire pit without any worry of suffocating your fire. Learn more about the Fire Pit Cooking System here.

When used with Heat Deflector, Hub is the sturdy, steady friend that won’t let you down. Acting as a solid base for your Heat Deflector to rest on, you’ll be able to add logs, rustle those embers, and roast a marshmallow without any worry of Heat Deflector moving an inch. Shield

Solo Stove Shield is the ultimate accessory in the category of providing Peace of Mind around your fire pit. Keeping embers and sparks at bay, Shield is a must-have if you’ve got pets or kids. Unlike other spark arrestors that are required to be entirely removed from the fire pit to add wood, Shield’s two-piece design allows the top portion to be removed, so wood can easily be added while the fire pit’s outer edges stay protected.

Its grooves are perfect for resting a pie iron, or a Stick complete with a marshmallow. When your flame is beginning to die down, and you’re thinking about heading in for the night, Shield will keep your fire contained while you clean up your party area. That being said, don’t leave your fire unattended! Learn more about Shield here.

Bonus Feature: Camp Stove Cooking Ring

We couldn’t end this article without paying homage to our heritage: The Solo Stove Camp Stove. Whether it’s the Lite, Titan, or Campfire, each stove comes complete with its own Cooking Ring. Similar to the aforementioned Flame Ring, Cooking Ring will direct your Camp Stove’s fire inward and upward to create the best burn possible. Do we have anyone in the #FlipThatCookingRing camp here? Hey there!

What makes our Cooking Ring special is its three prongs, and attached windshield, designed to hold any of our series of Pots. These three touchpoints make it possible to cook with ease while on the go, while the windshield lets your fire burn without being blown out. If you ever need a replacement, find one here.
