Tell Us About Yourself

We are a young married couple, I am 29 and my wife is 26 and try to get out backcountry camping several times per year to get away from our busy lives and leave everything behind for a little while since we both love canoe tripping and hiking!

Where Have You Gone Lately?

Last June we went on an 11-day backcountry canoe trip through Killarney Provincial Park in Ontario.

What Did You Do?

We paddled and portaged all over the south/central part of the park to get a new beautiful campsite every day. We also took a few hikes up the old quartzite mountain range the ‘La Cloche‘ to see some stunning views of the Georgian Bay with many lakes in between.

What Was Your Essential Gear?

MSR Elixir 2 tent, our kevlar canoe, Gregory Baltoro backpack, food barrel pack and Solo Stove Lite with a snow peak 900 pot

What Did You Eat?

We had some homemade dehydrated meals and some backpackers pantry meals, coffee and oatmeal for breakfast and many cliff bars and some trail mix on the trail.

How Did You Sleep?

We slept in our MSR Elixir 2 tent. We purchased it because it is a nice lightweight option for a two-person tent and it has proven to be very reliable even trough some terrible rain storms.

What Were Your Challenges?

This trip involved more portaging than either of us are used to and there were some very steep sections with lots of loose rock everywhere and a few extremely long ones. To save our backs we took the time to walk everything over in 2 trips taking the canoe and the food barrel first and then back to go get our backpacks.

What Was Your Favorite Moment?

On one of the lakes we stayed on, the fishing was just incredible. I set a new personal best for bass. From the same lake, you take an hour hike up the mountain range and you’ll be rewarded with one of the most incredible views ever!

What Was Your Favorite Moment?

I really enjoyed using the Solo Stove Lite on this venture. It is nice and lightweight and in combination with our snow peak pot, we had a nice cooking kit with unlimited amounts of fuel without having to carry any!
