Fire Pit Security: Keep Your Fire Pit Safe While On-The-Go

By Carolyn Owen

If your Solo Stove Fire Pit is your pride and joy, you’ll want to make sure it doesn’t grow legs and walk away when you’re camping, tailgating, or otherwise on-the-go. While it’s lit, a fire will be enough to keep fire pit bandits in check, but when it’s completely cooled down and looking like a shiny new toy, there’s no telling what could happen. Read on to learn about keeping your fire pit as safe and secure as possible.

Keep It In The Car

A locked car, or a locked cargo space under an RV, is the best place to store your unlit fire pit while you’re on the go. Keeping it in its carry case and out of plain sight will deter thieves from getting their hands on your stainless steel treasure. Only use this method when your fire pit has cooled down completely.

Use a Bike Lock

With your fire pit in its carry case, use a bike lock to secure the straps to a tree or pole. Since most theft is done quickly and swiftly, as long as you are present in or near your campsite, you likely will not have to worry about a swindler cutting through the carry case straps and making a run for it, as this might take a while. Stacking bags, coolers, and other cargo near your locked up pit can also be a distraction for most vandals. Only use this method when your fire pit has cooled down completely.

Use a Padlock + Bike Lock Combo

If you don’t have your carry case readily available, or want to make sure cutting through its straps won’t be an option, you’ll need to get a little creative in your security solution. Luckily, we’ve got an idea that might help.

Use a long-shackle (essentially: tall) padlock with a shackle diameter no larger than 1/4 of an inch to weave through the lower holes of your fire pit. Before locking the padlock, attach a bike lock in the remaining padlock space.

From there, secure the bike lock to a tree or pole. Cover your fire pit either in its carry case if available, or with a blanket, and then stack other cargo around it to distract conspiring eyes. Only use this method when your fire pit has cooled down completely.
